Toward Streamlined Risk Management An increasing number of insurance agents and brokers are distinguishing themselves from the pack by offering risk management services to their clients, with the help of technology. Scott Addis of The Addis Group created a risk management audit process that unearths, ranks, and measures a company's risks and then generates a plan for controlling those risks. The process lasts between two weeks and two months, causing some industry professionals to wonder whether such a comprehensive process can be cost-effective. Addis contends that the audit enables his company to "become the broker on the account instantaneously," and notes that automated tools and software help his team deliver. Todd Tyler of Commonwealth Insurance Group developed a risk management program called RECON 365, which uses a combination of commercial software and internally made tools to automate communication between the insured and the agency. The system offers clients electronic newsletters, online claims viewing, and online policy self-service. Bob Higgins of Schieff, KreidlerShell helps clients determine risks up front by scrutinizing the types of events that could influence the firm's revenue, employees, reputation, and goals. Higgins' software gives each exposure a risk score and then plots the exposures on a risk map; after viewing the exposures' scores and positions on the grid, clients are better able to rank their exposures by priority. Hetrick & Associates focuses on providing risk management services to large employer groups, with the aim of managing long-term expenses for group health and workers compensation. Source: BPM Today.
