How to Evaluate Your Work/Life Balance

Many insurance and risk management professionals are not sure exactly how to evaluate their work/life balance.

Start by asking yourself  if the demands of your work are infringing upon the quantity and quality of time you have with family, friends, hobbies, and community.

Then take the following work/life balance quiz that will tell you the degree to which you should be concerned about work/life balance:

  1. I work 60 or more hours per week.
  2. I have little personal down time.
  3. When I get home from work, I am exhausted.
  4. There seems to be precious little time to enhance personal relationships.
  5. “Fun” is no longer a word in my vocabulary.

If you answered “Yes” to 2 or more of the statements above, you owe it to yourself to learn more about work/life balance. 

The biggest issue for you to be immediately aware of is burnout. Burnout is the last act of the stress cycle.

Evidence of impeding burnout typically is:

  1. Emotional exhaustion
  2. Physical fatigue
  3. Cognitive weariness.
